Network connections from all of our providers come into our datacenter via Juniper routers connected to a gigabit Ethernet backbone, which feeds all of our subnets. These subnets are connected via fully managed HP switches. Our facilities are served by multiple gigabit connections from a variety of network providers. Firewalls located on each branch of the network safeguard against malicious attacks and denial of service attacks. A separate, non-publicly routable internal network is used for all of our backend systems, protected by multiple levels of firewalls.
Our hosting infrastructure is a proprietary internal design, which incorporates industry best practices along with custom technology developed at Hostway. At the lowest level, we make use of commodity hardware running Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems. These systems are custom configured and tailored to our specific needs of scalability, reliability and upgradeability.
Our software infrastructure is made up of a number of key applications, all sharing a common backend. From a customer's perspective, the most visible pieces are our Web site, order form, and SiteControl, a web-based control panel and portal which allows customers to administer their Web sites, dedicated servers, and domain name registrations, as well as maintain their support and billing relationship with Hostway.
Along with the customer-facing applications, internal staff uses a number of web applications including SiteSupport, a complete CRM system that handles all customer communication, and Begis, an internal control panel that provides all employees managed access to customer and company data. Behind the scenes, a number of backend applications handle tasks such as order processing and provisioning, customer billing, and data management. All of these applications make use of a common middleware layer, which provides access to our core enterprise resources and data. This includes a proprietary client-server system used to perform distributed, automatic systems administration for the servers in our data centers.
Further details of our hosting infrastructure, including diagrams, are proprietary information that we are more than willing to share as we get further in the partnership process.
